Member of the Month- Ben Eskra
If CFGB has a Most Improved Award it would most definitely be the one and only Ben Eskra. When Ben came to CFGB he was intimidated by some movements and now when he is the one intimidating the barbell! We are very fortunate to have a dedicated member and 100% team player to workout along side us on a daily basis.
At Ben’s intro class he (like many of us) performed a scaled back version of our benchmark WOD and then…saw his lunch for the second time. Now Ben can comfortably say that he uses that benchmark WOD as a warm-up. He has added literally hundreds of pounds to all of his lifts. Started with a band for pull-up and now has traded that band for a muscle-up! Back then, the rope jumped Ben now he accepts double unders gladly; could not quite make it upside and now tackles hand stand push-ups. The classic air squat has been replaced with PISTOLS. Even with all of these improvements Ben still pushes for more; and just as much as he pushes himself, he will push everyone else in the room!
Community is one thing that Ben enjoys most about Crossfit and we couldn’t agree more, it is members like Ben that make trips to the gym enjoyable and worth making! With a little help from your friends you can really push yourself to new limits and this is what keeps Ben coming back for more! When needed Ben performs workouts from home, but its just not that same for him, nor his fellow WOD mates. Your presence in workouts is always positive and we just can’t say thank you enough for that.
Being the fighter he is, Ben’s favorite exercises are the ones that he continues to work on; anything gymnastic! He also enjoys man handling the barbell whenever he gets a chance! Substitute that barbell for a dumbbell and say some clean and jerks, ehhh not his favorite but hey, Ben’s got this just throw him a muscle up in there and yep that smile is back! And did you know Ben was a marathon runner?!?!? Well he was! And even though hes been incorporating way more strength training into his workouts with crossfit, he has matched his split and full marathon times from ten years ago!
You are a one in a million Ben and we love ya for it! Thank you for your positive energy and constant push you bring with each lift and WOD. Keep it up big guy, YOU’RE AWESOME!!
