Here are Jim Wendler top 4 keys to making a strength program work:
1) Select exercises that are multi-joint movements—squat, DL, cleans, snatches, etc
2) Start light on your percentages
3) Always progress SLOW
4) Set new PRs….always test and retest!
*This sounds just like what we program for our athletic development over time
**Big thing to take away is to always start light with the loading and progress slowly. Some athletes want to skip steps and see quick results. If this does happen the strength gains will never stick!
Jim spoke about the rules he lives by with lifting along with straight up truth about life. Jim talks about the basics principles we all must stick to to get results without the BS and without the complications
Jim Wendler said some valuable stuff that has stayed with me as a coach and athlete:
-ALWAYS TRAIN WITH PURPOSE!
-BE PATIENCE WITH YOURSELF AND MAKING PERFORMANCE GAINS
-NEVER BE MARRY TO ONE EXERCISE–probably something your good at
-IF YOU DONT HAVE TIME TO WARM UP-YOU DONT HAVE TIME TO WORKOUT!
I had a really good time bringing coaches Joey and Aaron with me to Wake Forest University. We learned, we grew, and we smashed a few barbells! Always win the fight against your inner voice, get motivated, get psyched, and get your butt into the gym and make a different in your life!
Live the Code 365!
PS- Joey and Jim may be Viking brothers!
